How To Enter
ART COMPETITION

Currently enrolled high school junior and senior student artists or filmmakers, of Hispanic/Latino descent or interested in Hispanic/Latino heritage, may enter original (not copied) drawings, paintings or films in Latino Art Beat's local competition through the Art Department of public high schools in participating cities. The "Rules and Guidelines" for the upcoming art competition will be available through such high schools.

Students currently enrolled in Chicago area high schools, from grades 9-12, may submit entries in drawing, painting, computer generated art, 3-D artwork, photography and / or film and animation. Students in all other participating cities, from grades 11-12, may submit drawing, painting and/or film and animation entries.

Only high school juniors and seniors may qualify to be judged for scholarship awards.

An official “Art Competition Entry Form” must be completed and originally signed in duplicate by the student artist and submitted with each artwork entry and given to the high school art teacher in participating cities. The high school art department chairperson or visual arts teacher will complete an official “Teachers Entry Form”, which will inventory all their high schools art competition entries. Such forms are available from Latino Art Beat to high schools in participating cities only. Art teachers then submit their schools art competition entries, properly packaged and inventoried to a local Latino Art Beat “receiving warehouse”, as advised either by the Mayor’s Office or local Department of Education.

Submitted artwork must be ready for display, matted and reinforced on the back with cardboard or mounted on black or white board and be no larger than 30” x 36”.

Media. Oil, acrylic, watercolors, pencil drawing, ink drawing (black & white scratch board included), pastel, crayon (including etchings), charcoal, fabric, textile and mixed media are all acceptable.

Theme. “What Hispanic Heritage and Culture Means to Me!”
